I love spicey food

Ok, so I’m into herbal healing. Love it. The very first tincture I made was of cayenne. I have been good about using when I need it, but I have a confession. I keep it in with my spices and use it all the time in my food. I just can’t help it! I’m addicted to spicy food! Sometimes you make, say, a very nice soup, and it looks beautiful. It tasted great, but what it really needs is some spice. Now, I don’t want to go clouding up my beautiful soup….so I grab my cayenne tincture and drop away. Now I’m almost tempted to make a garlic tincture too! haha!

Decker’s Soccer

Ok, I just made a fabulous post, and from now on will be using the “save draft” option, because I used a function that I wasn’t even aware was capable….YAY.
SO! Decker had his first practice and game the other day and had a BLAST! We all loved watching him, especially his brother! Now all I need to go with my new tittle of Soccer Mom is the mini-van!

Omg Yummy Chicken

So yesterday I totally forgot to take out food for dinner. Honestly didn’t think about it till 3. So…first thing I grabbed was frozen chicken breast (still on the bone). What the heck do I do with it? so I look in the fridge…I have an orange and a lemon….ok.
So I dumped 4 pieces of chicken breast in a plastic bag, added the juice of one lemon, and the juice of one orange. I then added minced garlic….a retarded amount of garlic…I think it ended up being 8 cloves lol. I threw in probably 1/2 tbl of oregano….man I wish I had fresh oregano. Then I dumped in a few glugs of olive oil….I think it was maybe 1/2 cup or so. After all that stuff was in there I closed the bag and mixed it all up.
I let it sit for about 30 mins, then freaked out cause it needed to get in the oven to start cooking. Probably would be better marinating for a few hours…but whatever. I popped them into a pan, poured the extra saucy stuff on top of the chicken, then added a little salt to the chicken, along with a really light dusting of cayenne cause I didn’t know how well the chicken would brown. I popped it into the oven (375) and used a thermometer put into the thickest part of the biggest piece of chicken, set to 165 degrees. I have a timer that the thermometer hooks up to and beeps when the meat hits the right temp. I swear the reason why I’m soo good at cooking meat in the oven is because of that stupid thermometer. 🙂
When it was done, I just pulled it out, and let it rest for bout 20 min before we ate it.
To go with it we had baked potatoes (go go microwave) and sauteed asparagus (olive oil + minced garlic and salt).
The kids loved it, Jason loved it, shoot I couldn’t even get enough. If you wanted to get really ambitious you could take the drippings from the chicken and make some gravy, but I think the drippings were just fine on my potato as they were.

Figured I’d share, Decker even said we could eat it three times a week and he’d be happy. Can’t get a better review than that!

Groceries….

So on MSN there was an article I read about a girl who started a $1 a day grocery bill. Total for the year she would only spend $365. The comment section was ridiculous, saying it was impossible, saying that she was on food stamps, and it also didn’t help that she said she didn’t eat meat. At first this did make me skeptical, then I thought about it. She’s one person. That doesn’t translate to a family, so with her thinking, that would allow me $4 a day. That gives me $28. I’ve been averaging $32 a week, and I buy meat. People were also complaining about how they could not live on rice alone. HA! We certainly don’t.
One simple concept: Couponing!! and I never buy meat over $1 a pound and when I find it, I buy at least 10 lbs and put the extra in the freezer. I’ve seen a lot of sites. My favorite is Couponmom.com . I like it because it links me to a ton of coupon sites, including giving me lists of what’s on sale outside of the circular at my grocery store.
So do I think a $1 a day per person is possible? Heck yeah!

Allergies…..

So yesterday I get a call from school….Decker has allergies. ????? None of us have ever had a problem in this allergy ridden area until yesterday. It’s funny, just because I absolutely had no clue what to do for him. I ended up giving him Benadryl when he got home and had him take a nap, then after we went to wally world and got some “claritin” (yay for generics). What I’ve been hearing around town is that people that don’t usually have allergies are having a heck of a time right now, something’s different in the air. Who knows. All I know is my poor kid is coughin up his lungs and I’m completely innept when it comes to allergies.

Ear Aches…..Yuck

Ok, so usually when we get ear aches, it’s straight to the chiropractor and it fixes it right up. This time, it made mine worse…not sure why it just did. But there’s good news, I found a way to cure it all on my own!! YAY!!! Garlic/Mullein Ear Oil…..AMAZING….within a few hours the pain went away and the next day, totally gone! The funny thing is when I told my mom this, she said that my grandma had done that to her when she was a kid. The things we’ve forgotten are just plain amazing. Anyways, here’s a link to some good recipes: Recipes for Ear Infections
